Rogue Creamery – Smoked Blue

Rogue Creamery Smoked Blue

Nice blue cheese, but I could not tell that it was smoked at all. It was firm, salty but with no distinguishable smoked aroma or flavor. We sampled this cheese by itself and also on a cracker. I think the cracker just interfered with the flavor.

I would buy this cheese again, but not for the smoky flavor. I would describe this blue as moderate as far as pungency goes. If you are new to blue cheese, you might want to give this one a try.

According to the Rogue Creamery web site, this cheese is cold smoked for 16 hours with Oregon Hazelnut shells. Really? I didn’t taste it at all. Perhaps my palate isn’t very well tuned because it won the 2005  Best New Product in the World Award.

Quick Facts:

$21.99 / lb
