Fol Epi

Fol Epi

Mild, slightly nutty flavored cheese from France. This cooked cheese is pressed into a mold with a head of wheat decoration embossed in it (which you can see in the photo). This makes for a lovely presentation on a cheese board. Fol epi means “wild wheat stalk” in French. Perhaps, as a celebration to wheat, this cheese is also dusted with toasted wheat flour.

The one thing that stands out about this cheese is that it reminds me strongly of Jarlsberg, but without the huge holes. If you like Jarlsberg or Emmental, you will like this cheese, although I think Fol Epi is slightly milder than Jarlsberg.
